摘要

While I have no quibble with LJ hosting the Annoyed Librarian blog, I take affront with the nature of John Berry's defense against complaints of unprofes-sionalism ("Don't Muzzle Librarians," Blatant Berry, LJ 1/10, p. 10). That we value, as a profession, freedom of expression, is not to say that it is the professional duty of librarians to say whatever they like. We value this freedom because we recognize the power of speech. Even small children learn that controlling this power is their responsibility, as words can hurt, help, or influence themselves and others.
