John Berry aptly summarizes our profession's woes ("Still Invisible," Blatant Berry, LJ 6/1/15, p. 10). Although we know why we are essential, many outside the field do not-and for that reason, media coverage and societal engagement remain elusive. Berry says he wishes he knew the solution. I suggest that he solved the dilemma in this very same piece: "I hear about the schools...." Indeed, two years ago ("Library of the Year 2013," LJ 6/15/13, p. 30-33), Howard County Library confidently shared a new vision that...really takes us back to our original purpose. Here's why the strategy works. According to Pew Research, one-third of Americans don't understand what we do (and the other two-thirds really don't either). Conversely, 100 percent of Americans know what schools do-which is what Libraries = Education accomplishes for us, a 100 percent understanding....
