How do you get large numbers of people to choose to work as one to achieve the shared purpose of your organization? How do you know whether the conditions exist for the successful execution of your strategy? How do you assess the risks that people won t commit to the errort and help deliver your goals? These are questions that, in one guise or another, crop up time and again in the conversations we have with leaders all over the world. Their common theme: Are the internal conditions right for us to succeed? We believe these questions represent the central challenge for today's organizations: collective leadership-the ability to get individuals and groups of individuals to come together and act in the interests of collective goals.
