Hughes Network Systems stated that its Brazil-based affiliate, Hughes Telecommunicacoes do Brasil Ltda, has entered into a deal with Intelsat for providing a managed mobile backhaul solution in Brazil This would allow mobile operators to expand mobile sites to rural and other neglected areas. Intelsat is a provider of commercial satellite services. Hughes s mobile backhaul solution uses the HX System at remote mobile sites operating on HughesNet satellite broadband service. It also uses Intelsat s C-band capacity in addition to other Intelsat satellites in the Atlantic Ocean region. The solution enables cost-effective deployment in the rural areas of Brazil and would allow Brazilian telecom firms to expand their mobile services in these regions. Jay Yass, Intelsat s vice president of Network Services, said that the partnership with Intelsat would lead to the provision of new, cost-efficient telecom services for rural users.
