Cofetel finalises draft mobile interconnection proposals

Mexico's Comision Federal de Telecomunicaciones (Cofetel) has reportedly approved a draft plan on new regulations for mobile interconnection rates. It is understood that the proposals will now be sent to Comision Federal de Mejora Regulatoria (Cofemer), the federal regulatory improvement commission for comments. In April 2012 the regulator revealed that it was planning to launch a public consultation regarding the proposed cost model for defining fixed and mobile interconnection rates. The decision to launch the consultation, Cofetel noted, was prompted in part by a need to strengthen the transparency of the decision-making process, while also ensuring the legal certainty of any decisions that are made, with regard to the determination of interconnection rates.
