Movistar Chile (Telefonica) is looking to invest around US$250 million in its operations this year, with the focus firmly set on fiber-optic broadband expansion, according to the operator's CEO Roberto Munoz. The figure is around 13 percent lower than the previous year's investment but Munoz said the company wanted to stick to its plans in spite of the projected slowdown of the Chilean economy. Movistar Chile's fixed broadband segment accounted for 26 percent of the operator's revenues last year, some US$287 million, with the company accounting for 43.1 percent of the fixed telephony market, followed by VTR (20.4 percent) and Entel (16.3 percent).
