The three partners at Surfacedesign-James Lord, FASLA; Roderick Wyllie, ASLA; and Geoff di Girolamo-bring a range of interests and backgrounds to their California-based landscape architecture practice: music composition, evolving architectural modernisms, and a sense of freedom and experimentation and manipulation of materials. Unexpected plantings, audacious forms, and a strong graphic quality in plan hint at early influences including John Cage; Martha Schwartz, FASLA; and Roberto Burle Marx. The 25 projects highlighted in this monograph show the work of this ASLA award-winning firm through residential and public projects in New Zealand, California, Canada, and elsewhere.
