The North American Journal of Fisheries Management published an article in November, 1996 by Charles New-combe and Jorgen Jensen that brought tornlight the damaging affects of sediment on aquatic life. Even low levels of turbidity in a body of water can be detrimental. The article includes many quantitative illustra-rntions on how sediment concentration and particulate size can be lethal to fish. New-combe and Jensen state,rnIll effects increase as a function ofrnincreasing particle size (if other variables are kept constant). Pollution events often subject fish to particle sizes to which they are not normally exposed. Newcombe et al.
