There's a wonderful, minimalist sensibility to the Black Barn Winery in Lexington that is belied by the big, bold taste of its full-bodied red wines made in the old world tradition of Bordeaux, France. a climate-controlled building constructed especially for this small, family-owned operation with a growing resume'. The Lexington winery's Black Barn IX recently secured a Gold Medal Award at The Indy International Wine Competition at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., the largest, scientifically organized and independent wine competition in the U.S. That recognition comes on the heels of Indy awards the winery received in 2010 for Black Barn V (silver medal) and Black Barn VI (bronze medal) in the annual international competition.
