AGM 2014 Report

Approximately 90 people attended, including representatives of 48 Guilds, and members of the General Purposes Committee (GPC) and Journal Editorial Committee (JEC). Association Chairman Stuart Groom welcomed everyone to the meeting. Retiring President Sheila Smith told us how honoured she had felt to be President of such a vibrant Association and spoke of the importance of the Guilds in bringing craft skills to the public at a time when craft awareness is growing. Our new Honorary President, Dr Jenny Balfour-Paul, noted that, while the internet encouraged horizontal connections, the vertical connection between the generations was being lost, with young people ignorant of craft skills that have been practised for millennia. People gravitate to craft demonstrations at events so we should make use of this.
