My car trip to the grocery store to pick up a few items for dinner just felt a bit more inappropriate. Lawrence Herzog's new book Global Suburbs does not mince words. 'Urban sprawl kills' is Herzog's seminal message and he has woven together a combination of research findings and selected case examples to illustrate his contention.1 Herzog stands with James Kunstler, who likewise is not shy in proclaiming that 'sprawling suburbs represent the greatest misallocation of resources in the history of the world'.2
