Postal services in their very different forms have contributed considerably to the exchange of ideas, dissemination of knowledge and the movement of people and goods through the public transport system that they maintained. During the most recent thirty years, the evolution of postal and public transport followed a turbulent course, owing to the dismantling of government monopolies in the sector of service providers.
