The year 2008 marked the 30th anniversary of the Airline Deregulation Act in the US, an event commonly regarded as the beginning of airline industry liberalization globally. In the years since, geographers have had a particular interest in the liberalization's diverse impacts including the evolution of hub-and-spoke networks, the emergence of low-cost carriers, airline mergers, changes in the quantity and quality of air services to marginalized and privileged cities alike, and the growing economic, environmental, and social consequences of aviation. A considerable share of that work has been published in the pages of the Journal of Transport Geography. In this issue of the journal, six new papers on air transportation are presented.
