The positive and negative impacts of tourism on destinations have been discussed for many years. However, until recently the impacts of travel to the destination have been neglected. The climate change debate has highlighted this oversight, as flights have a particularly detrimental greenhouse gas effects due to the forcing effect of emissions at high altitude. This volume is therefore a timely contribution to the literature, which presents a thorough exposition of the downside of tourism at both destinations and globally. It then goes on to set out in detail the potential for a new approach, slow travel, to provide a more thoughtful and satisfying alternative, that feeds the soul, supports destinations and minimises tourism's global and local impacts.
