Serum levels of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9) in patients with pulmonary mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection

In view of recent isolated case reports indicating elevated serum levels of carbohydrate antigen 19-9 (CA19-9), a cancer associated antigen, in noncancerous patients with pulmonary mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) infection, an attempt was made to investigate serum CA19-9 in pulmonary MAC disease for tis frequency of appearance, its relationships to age, sex, and existing pathology as well as for its mechanism of appearance.
