摘要

Fibres selected from tufts in wool carpets subjected to straight-walk and turning-walk wear were subject to quantitative examination of the location of eight forms of damage. Carpet wear and loss of fibre are attributed mainly to axial compression fatigue, which causes sharp bends in fibres. Length distributions were measured and analysed statistically in terms of five models of break location. In the preferred model, the probability density function for fibre breakage increased from base to tip of tufts according to a simple power law.
