Determination of the Thermal Conductivity Tensor of Thermally Orthotropic Materials with Transient Line Heat Source Method

摘要

The transient line heat source (LHS) method is an effective method for thermal conductivity measurement. In this paper, the LHS method was extended to measuring thermally orthotropic materials based on the theory of heat conduction in orthotropic media. A new method of determining the thermal conductivity tensor of thermally orthotropic materials using the thermalconductivity-probe (TCP) thermal properties analyzer (LHS method) was proposed. This method was validated by comparing with the guarded hot-plate (GHP) method, based on the results from a test on cherrywood specimens. It appears that the proposed method is able to swiftly determine the thermal conductivity tensor of thermally orthotropic materials. Satisfactory measurements can be obtained if the specimen-needle system under each of the three single measurements is close enough to its corresponding idealized physical system.
