摘要

The author's comparison of predicted and observed deflections shows that the deflection equations stipulated by the major building design codes provide a wide range of different predictions that do not necessarily agree with the experimental observations. Evidently, deflection prediction cannot be reduced to a single all-purpose equation and must be treated according to the specific load and support situation within the framework of an appropriate design approach. We suggest that not the isolated prediction equations but rather the general approach to deflection prediction needs to be reconsidered.
