摘要

The writer thanks the writers of all three discussions for their comments and interest in the paper. Professor Bischoff has provided a useful background to the derivation of his equation for the effective moment of inertia of a cracked reinforced concrete member and, in doing so, has provided a convincing explanation of the deficiencies of Branson's equation for members with small reinforcement ratios. The writer supports the recommendation to replace Branson's equation with Bischoff's equation for I_e in future editions of ACI 318.
