This book is, by far, more exciting than its boring cover. Part of the Middle Eastern Military Studies series, it analyses the conduct of the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) counter-insurgency operations during twornmajor Palestinian uprisings (Intifadas), from 1987 to 1993 and from 2000 to 2005.rnGiven that studies on the IDF tend to focus on its conventional wars with Arab regular armies, this book, focusing on IDF's counter-insurgency, is quite refreshing as it better reflects reality on the ground. Indeed, over the last two decades or so, the IDF has been more involved in counter-insurgency operations than in conventional wars as seen in its operations in Lebanon from 1985 to 2000 and in the occupied territories since 1987; even the latest 2006 war in Lebanon was not one fought against a regular army.
