Stalinism Revisited: The Establishment of Communist Regimes in East-Central Europe

Accounts of early communist rule in Eastern Europe emerged quite quickly after World War II as politicians and diplomats rushed to describe Stalin's political maneuvers in the region. Historians followed suit with monographs that stressed Soviet military and political power, claiming that Soviet liberation of Eastern Europe made communist rule inevitable. Indeed, first histories of communist imposition in Eastern Europe were really never about the region at all.
