Early Christian Remains of Inner Mongolia

This work (Vol. 88 in Brill's Sinica Leidensia series), based on the authors doctoral dissertation, is a detailed study of Christian archaeological remains, primarily gravestones, found in Inner Mongolia, China. Part I gives an overview of the history of'Nestorianism' in Central Asia and China, focusing on the Mongol era, to which most of the Christian remains under discussion can be connected. This introductory section includes a discussion of the problematic term 'Nestorian', a review of the information provided by various medieval European travellers in the area (Rubruck, Polo, Montecorvino, etc.), and a description of 'Nestorian' Christianity amongst the Ongiit Turks who were responsible for the funerary materials that the book describes.
