Our corresponding society in France, the Association pour l'Histoire des Chemins de Fer, has, as its name suggests, a narrower field of interest than that of the Railway & Canal Historical Society. Nevertheless its handsomely produced annual volume contains studies that deserve a wider readership than that of those living within the 'Hexagon'. For the English student of railway history there are interesting parallels with events on this side of the Channel as well as features of direct relevance to British railway historians. (At the end of the volume there are short abstracts in English of each article.)
