High temperature morphology and stability of nanoporous Ag foams

Nanoporous silver foams (75 % porosity) synthesized by dealloying Ag_(25)Al_(75) using two different electrolytes were heat treated in either argon or vacuum in order to induce changes in the morphology and ligament size. Several techniques including scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction are utilized to study the elevated temperature morphology and oxide formation. The ligament sizes increase with heat treating temperature, except for the sample heat treated in vacuum at 600 ℃. Results show no significant silver oxide formation for any of the foams.
