摘要

The Dallas Myth: The Making and Unmaking of an American City examines how Dallas grew over time to become the country's ninth-largest metropolitan area. The author explores the reasons for Dallas's historical development including its ideal location on trade routes, rich agricultural surroundings, and oil. While there are many reasons for the city's existence, city boosters have argued it is a city without a history. The appendices offer a useful history of major milestones in the city's history.rnDallas has a strong history of boosterism, starting with selling itself to people looking to move west. These boosters have created the myth of Dallas. This myth has been bolstered by three critical items, thernfirst of which was the assassination of President Kennedy, leaving in the minds of Americans Dallas as a city of evil and racism.
