Overall, the presentations provided an update of spent fuelrnmanagement issues and initiatives across the globe, with anrnemphasis on recommendations and expectations for the newrnU.S. Administration in the back-end of the fuel cycle. Other presentationsrnthat were not summarized above informed participantsrnon issues such as spent fuel security and aging managementrninitiatives; spent fuel technology and projects such as therndevelopment of the process for unrestrained stackup of spentrnfuel into dry storage casks; DOE spent fuel campaign updates,rnincluding the spent fuel railcar project; transportation considerations;rnmore details on the high burnup cask demonstrationrnplan; and ongoing work to prepare for bulk shipments of spentrnfuel. In addition, Waste Control Specialists (WCS) and HoltecrnInternational provided details about their plans for privately-runrnconsolidated storage facilities, and the conference concludedrnwith a session that focused on issues related to nuclear powerrnplant decommissioning. The 33rd annual Spent Fuel Seminarrnwill be held in Washington, DC USA on January 23-25, 2018;rnbased on the success of the first thirty-two seminars, this isrnone conference not to be missed.
