VCS 2007: Carbon Crediting at Two US Landfills: A Case Study prepared for the 32nd Annual SWANA Landfill Gas Symposium

In late 2007, two new carbon crediting standards were launched with particular emphasis on voluntary offset projects in the United States. Prior to this time, the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) marketplace and its standards were the primary offset crediting option for US landfill projects.rnThese new standards - the Voluntary Carbon Standard 2007 and the Climate Action Reserve Offset Protocols - provide landfill owners and energy developers who install voluntary gas collection systems more choice in how they realize carbon offset revenue for their projects. In addition, these standards may increase project income through longer crediting periods and greater perceived value from offset customers when compared to the CCX.
