The drawbacks of traditional side to side choledochoduodenostomy are the proneness of stricture of the anastomosis; the possibility of bil - iopancreatic reflux if the common duct and pan - creatic duct share a common outlet; the part of the common duct distal to the anastomosis is a blind loop which can cause postcholecystectomy syndrome.
