This book centres on the findings of an Australian research project investigating how boys, girls and their teachers perceive the relationship between gender and foreign language (FL) learning. As the title suggests, the main aim was to shed light on the much-canvassed problems of boys - their reluctance to study FLs and their relatively lower levels of attainment when they do. The first three chapters examine the nature and history of the problem, review the literature, and explain the authors' own theoretical framework; the next four present the evidence from interviews; the final two chapters draw conclusions and explore their implications.
