摘要

The editors of this book noticed that most publications related to distance education have not focused on learning theory as it is being applied to the design of distance learning environments. One of the editors' objectives for the book was "to bring the voice of the learning sciences to the study and design of distance education" (p. xi). Their other objective was to make sure that the programs featured in the book are presented in a detailed way so that the pedagogical approaches can be understood even by those who are not learning theorists or who have other interests in the field of distance education.
