Closure to 'Hydraulic Design and Analysis of Labyrinth Weirs. Ⅰ: Discharge Relationships' by B. M. Crookston and B. P. Tullis

Crookston and Tullis present a labyrinth weir spreadsheet-based design program with supporting discharge coefficient [C_d(α°)] data for quarter-round and half-round crest labyrinth weirs and various sidewall angles (α). The information presented can be used to determine the required labyrinth weir geometry needed for a specific design head and discharge, develop a rating curve for a specific labyrinth weir design, and/or serve as calibration/validation data for labyrinth weir computational fluid dynamic models. Crookston and Tullis present the C_d(α°) data as a family of α-dependent curves and curve-fit equations and a function of the upstream total head divided by the weir wall height (H_T/P). With the C_d(α°) curve-fit equations and the spreadsheet program template (with equations), practitioners can easily create their own labyrinth weir design program.
