Hydraulic fracturing design is highly dependent onthe knowledge of the injection fluid efficiency. This parameteris generally derived from the interpretation of the calibrationtests fall offs. Two popular methods are the square root oftime and Nolte’s G function1,2,3,4. Such interpretations are notalways straightforward and can lead in some practicalapplications to the failure of propant placement i.e : a screenout with an impact on the post frac well’s productivity.In this paper a new interpretation technique forclosure pressure determination is presented. It is based on anovel utilisation of Nolte’s F function5. Field cases onAlgeria’s In-Adaoui field are analysed. Proppant placementfailures are explained. These examples demonstrate theusefulness of the F function for improving hydraulic fracturingdesign whether for a conventional permeabilty estimation orfor closure pressure and hence efficiency determination.
