One of the most significant theoretical advancements in the legal academy is the recognition that law is not the exclusive method of social regulation. Social norms and architecture are examples of other methods available that influence behavior. This recognition has led researchers from a variety of disciplines to investigate the role played by information technology architecture in shaping our online experiences and activities. Throughout this article, we will use the term "code" to refer to this information technology architecture.
