摘要

In the paper the buckling loads of two cooling towers, having equal height and wall thickness, are compared. One tower has the shape of a hyperboloid of revolution, while the other is cylindrical. The radius of the latter is equal to the minimum hoop radius of the hyperboloid. From the comparison conclusions can be drawn concerning the economy (material consumption) and the critical loads of the two kinds of cooling towers.
