The umbrella can be considered as one of most representative structures of Candela 's work and, without a doubt, the structure he most often used. Its profusion and versatile applications manifest some of the most characteristic qualities of his structures. This article aims to gain an in-depth understanding of its structural behavior, considering the simplifications introduced by Candela, and comparing them with an analysis by the finite element method.
