摘要

The mechanism of the photoreaction of the aci-nitro moiety, a useful photo labile protecting group, has been investigated by means of semi-empirical methods. Due to this data the mechanism of the photoreaction has to be revised. The new mechanism is in agreement with the results of time resolved spectroscopy. The observed acid catalysis can be explained by our data. The two exponential decay of the first intermediate of the photoreaction, the aci-nitro intermediate, can be attributed to stereo isomerism of this intermediate.
