Role of Parents in the Social Development of Adolescents: A Comparison of Low and Middle Socio-Economic Status

摘要

The present research is an exploratory attempt to study the "Role of parents in the social development of adolescents: A comparison of low and middle socio-economic status". The sample consisted of 100 adolescents and their parents. Random sampling technique was employed to select the middle socio-economic group and snowball sampling technique was used to select low socio-economic status. Three scales were used—Measure of Approving Parent (MAP) for parents, and Emotional Maturity Scale (EMS) and Self Actualization Inventory (SEAI) for adolescent children. Statistical analysis shows that the majority of parents show a moderate degree of approval towards their children. Most of the adolescents of both the group were emotionally unstable and had attained moderate self-actualization. Data was also analyzed through coefficient of correlation and it was found that parental approval does not correlate highly with emotional maturity nr self-actualization.
