Davis's superb Resurrecting the Granary of Rome analyzes the emergence, elaboration, and consequences of culturally inflected narratives of environmental destruction in Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia. Methodologically rich, extensively researched, and clearly written, Resurrecting the Granary of Rome addresses a fundamental question in colonial environmental history, indicates fruitful directions for future scholarship, and provides a useful methodological template for such investigations.
