Ethnic and minority cultures as tourism attractions

When tourists travel to destinations to enjoy the exotic cultures found there, they will inevitably have an influence on the local culture and the ethnic-minority groups who live there. Tourists not only want to find out about different cultures and how the local people live, they also want to see, feel and taste the difference. This only serves to enhance the impact on the local culture and to cause further changes to local people's lives. The objective of this book is to understand the causes and effects involved, using specific case studies from worldwide tourist destinations. The book shows how changes are influencing the ethnic and minority cultures found in today's tourist destinations. Furthermore, since limited research has been done in the field of tourism and culture, it provides relevant and up-to-date research findings for field researchers and local government seeking to protect the authentically of local and minority cultures. The book examines the cultural influences of tourism in four different ways: socio-cultural development, community perception, visitor experiences and development policies. These four dimensions help the reader to gain a deeper understanding of how different tourism stakeholder groups perceive culture and cultural changes.
