National Academies Report: Safely Transporting Hazardous Liquids and Gases in a Changing U.S. Energy Landscape

On October 17, 2017, the National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NAS) announced release of a recently completed report, titled Safely Transporting Hazardous Liquids and Gases in a Changing U.S. Energy Landscape, Transportation Research Board (TRB) Special Report 325. The report looks at the increases since 2005 in longdistance movement of energy liquids and gases (crude oil, ethanol and natural gas) within the U.S. by railroad tank cars, pipelines and tank barges, and makes recommendations aimed at reducing the likelihood of future incidents and ensuring the effectiveness of emergency response when incidents do occur.
