The new privacy guidelines of the OECD: what changes for businesses?

OECD Guidelines governing the protection of privacy and transborder flows of personal data, see the Annex to the Recommendation of the Council concerning Guidelines governing the Protection of Privacy and Transborder Flows of Personal Data (2013). C(80)58/ FINAL, as amended on 11 July 2013 by C(2013)79. The revised OECD Privacy Guidelines are indicative of a trend to increased accountability of businesses in the area of data protection which will ultimately require many companies to revise their data-processing practices (including in the area of competition law investigations and compliance programmes) and privacy governance frameworks.
