Indoor Radon Levels in Kindergartens and Play-schools from the Province of Parma

One hundred and eight measurements of indoor radon concentrations were performed in 49 kindergartens and play-schools located in 26 towns of the Italian province of Parma. The method used was that involving Solid-State Nuclear Track Detectors (SSNTDs), which were hung in the selected rooms From mid-October of 1994 to mid-April of 1995. The indoor radon levels Resulted to be generally low, ranging from 10-108 Bq m`-3, with an average Activity concentration of 30 ± 19 (SD) Bq m`-3. The mean annual radon effec- Tive dose equivalent was assessed to be 0.5 mSv.
