The aim of this study is to develop a typology of attitudes and behaviours of teachers on environmental issues. In particular, it intends to group primary school teachers, based on the attitudes and behaviours shaped by the influence of mass media as well as a record of their environmentally-friendly behaviour. The survey data has been gathered by means of a suitably designed questionnaire and personal interviews which were addressed to primary school teachers. The questionnaire was drawn up based on similar research work done in Greece and other countries. This two-stage Proportional Stratified Random Sampling has been used as a basic sampling plan for the selection of teachers and the collection of data. More specifically, the schools were selected by random sampling of physical replacement, from the eight Primary Education Departments of Central Macedonia. The survey was conducted over the period 2014-2015. The size of the sample included 392 teachers. A specific methodology based on the Hierarchical analysis in clusters was applied to build a typology of teachers, based on the factors associated with the effects of the mass media on the views, attitudes and therefore the behaviour of teachers in environmental matters. The recommended methodology regarding the construction of typology involves two phases; in the first stage, the main factorial parameters of the views, attitudes and behaviour of teachers on environmental issues were extracted through the application of the method of Non-Linear-Categorical Analysis to Main Components. Particularly, the factorial parameters make up new, complex variables, which are now quantitative and linearly independent. Then, in the second stage, a method called Hierarchical cluster analysis has been applied to the values of teacher responses on the factorial parameters.
