This study aims to investigate the enhancement in strength of compression members, both plain concrete prisms and RC columns when strengthened with Carbon Fiber Sheet (CFS) wrap. Variables in this study are height of specimen, number of CFS layers and CFS type. The uniaxial compression test was performed for all specimens. Results of two different groups (PC circular prisms and RC square columns) are presented. Results show that the improvement in compressive strength for wrapped PC circular prisms and RC columns reached up to 310% and 65% higher than the strength of the identical unwrapped specimens by increasing thickness of CFS wrap type HT300 up to 3 layers. Moreover, wrapping with 2 CFS layers type HT400, their strength achieved 245% and 70% larger than the identical unwrapped column. Using ABAQUS finite element software, RC column was modeled and analyzed. Numerical results were found satisfactory when compared with experimental results. Test results of CFS retrofitting technology was found encouraging to be applied to real concrete structures.
