Halogen-free Solder Paste Goes Mainstream

Solder manufacturers have been stepping up efforts for the full-scale use of halogen-free solder pastes in the manufacturing process. Recently, leading electronic manufacturing service (EMS) companies around the world are conducting evaluation tests to verify the properties of halogen-free solder pastes, and manufacturers are optimistic that the market will expand further in the future. A solder paste is made by uniformly mixing solder powder and paste-type flux, an organic solution that consists of pine resin, thixo agent, activator and solvent used to promote soldering. Conventionally, halogen-based materials are added to solder pastes in order to reduce oxides, and at the same time remove the oxide film on the solder surface and land surface.
