For the last several months, we have been discussing anti-aircraft missile systems. Now, we will focus on radar-directed anti-aircraft gun systems, which many countries have been upgrading. Anti-aircraft guns are most commonly called AAA, which is an abbreviation of anti-aircraft artillery. Their purpose is to protect surface-to-air missile sites and to protect ground forces that are on the move. Thus, the defeat of these weapons is an essential part of the whole electronic warfare strategy. There are a lot more of these AAA sites than there are SAM sites, and although their ranges are significantly shorter than those of missiles, they are deadly to aircraft within their engagement envelopes.
