There is a new generation of short-range mobile antiaircraft weapons to protect troops on the move and the long-range S-300 and later anti-aircraft missile systems. Each of these weapons employs both anti-aircraft guns and surface-to-air missiles. Because they are highly mobile and widely exported they constitute a significant threat to rotary-wing aircraft. As with the earlier ZSU-23-4 weapons, these new gun/missile systems are also significant threats to high-performance, fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles, and precision munitions at short range. According to the literature, they also have some level of effectiveness against new-generation stealth aircraft.
