A Sampling of Expendables-Dispensers

Things have changed dramatically since our last survey of coun-termeasures dispensers in September 1997. It is safe to say that this isn't your grandfather's ECM anymore, or even your father's. Gone are the days when aircrews could simply throw "window" out the window, as it were. Window, of course, was the misdirection term first applied to chaff by the Allies in World War II, in order to conceal its true purpose. The initial chaff dispensers were of the ten-finger variety; crewmen would throw bundles of chaff out of the waist gunner ports of B-24 and B-17 heavy bombers.
