摘要

Untreated distillery effluent from distilleries were examined and subjected to biogas production using specific organism. Samples were collected from Trichy Distilleries and the organism was isolated from treated distillery effluent sample (taken from biogas plant). Specific genus of Methanogen family was isolated and that genus was used as inoculant for biogas production using distillery as a source since they contain more sugar and alcohol. The organism Methanosarcina is normal flora of cow rumen and they form a mutualistic relationship with rumen bacteria. Methanosarcina is a strict anaerobic and the organism itself showed more ability to produce biogas when compared to mixed culture of Methanogens. The production is very fast when compared to mixture culture of Methanogens. Methanosarcina inoculated effluent required 2 days for efficient biogas production while mixed culture took 5 days.
