This investigation was conducted to study the effect of Dimethoate on biochemical constituents like protein, glycogen and cholesterol quantitavely in freshwater cichlid fish, Oreochromis mossambicus for 24 hour exposure. The protein, glycogen and cholesterol levels decreased in cardiac muscle (2.55, 0.32, 0.1 mg/g), testes (1.8, 0.25 and 0.17mg/g) and liver (2.65, 0.14 & 0.28 mg/g) when compared to control cardiac muscle (6.0,0.68 & 0.18 mg/g), testes (4.05,0.67 & 0.42 mg/g) and liver (6.25,0.35 & 0.46 mg/g) of O. mossambicus. The findings reveal that the pesticide affects on the tissue metabolites during the exposure period. The other causes for these variations are discussed.
